Cleansing, Grounding, Protection, Stress and Negative Energy

It is very imperative to cleanse, ground and protect your energetic health! If you are continuously absorbing negative energy year after year, your health, your body, your mind and your soul will be affected.
Where Does Negative Energy Come From? Negative energies can come from people, places and/or things, and be picked up almost anywhere. This includes, in your own home, at work, on a trip, out shopping, at a party or family get-together; basically, anywhere people have been hanging out while dealing with negative thoughts, emotions or personal situations. This means, even after the person has left the room, property or area, the negative energy they may have left behind might still be lingering. Negative energies can also be imprinted on personal items such as furniture, jewelry and other personal belongings. Walk into any antique store and you will know exactly what I am talking about...pay attention to how you feel.
How Do I Know When I’m Picking up Negative Energy? Check in with your body, every day and often! Do a body scan on yourself before and after leaving your home each day. You may suddenly notice something different when you encounter someone new, or touch someone’s personal object(s). How are you feeling? Are you still in a good mood? Is your body suddenly tense? Are you in any pain in areas you were not before? By doing full body scans often, you will start to notice these subtle clues more often. After some practice, you will start to recognize what is your energy and when you are picking up on someone else’s energy.
If, and when, you pick up on someone else’s energy or start receiving intuitive information, thank your Guides/Spirit/Angels for the information and then release their energy or “cut the energetic cord” immediately to keep it from sticking to you. Ground, Cleanse and Protect your energy often! How Does Negative Energy Affect Me? It can cause poor health and illness, disruption and chaos, insomnia, exhaustion, depression, fear, anxiety, stress, anger, sadness and confusion ...just to name a few.
Cleansing, Grounding and Protection…
Since all people, places and things hold energy, it is always a good idea to cleanse, ground and protect your energy before encountering anyone, anything or any place that may hold energy. *Note: Wearing a favorite piece of jewelry or carrying certain crystals/stones with you can be a great way to remind yourself to do this before you leave your home and whenever necessary throughout the day.
To Ground Yourself…
- Start by placing your feet firmly on the ground.
- Relax your body.
- On the first inhale, take a slow deep breath filling your lungs completely. Picture a cleansing, white light coming in through the top of your head and slowly surrounding your entire body, gathering up all the stress, anxiety and negative energy.
- On the exhale, picture this white light, turning this energy into a gray filled smoke as it slowly leaves your body, flowing out through the bottom of your feet and into the earth below to be transformed into positive energy ...like the roots of a tree going deep into the center of the earth below to be cleansed.
- Now breathe in deeply once again, this time visualize breathing in healing energy up through your feet …visualize the roots of mother earth wrapping themselves around your feet and ankles making you feel steady on the ground.
- Do this several times until you feel calm and completely connected to mother earth.
*Tip: Standing within in a circle of grounding crystals (such as Selenite and Black Tourmaline), can be very beneficial in helping ground your energy a bit quicker and easier.
To Protect Yourself from Absorbing Negative Energy…
- Visualize a bubble of white light surrounding your entire body.
- Put on your energetic belt of protection: if you often hold negative energy in your stomach area, visualize yourself putting on an energetic belt of protection over your solar and sacral chakras …or the area of your stomach where you most often feel tension, pain or stress.
- Zip up your chakras: visualize yourself zipping up your entire aura from head to toe; completely covering every area of your body including every chakra energy center within your body.
- Carry or wear protective stones such as… Moldavite, Hematite, Selenite, Black Tourmaline, Black Onyx, Black Obsidian, Apache Tears Obsidian, Amethyst, Smoky Quartz, Rose Quartz, Cat’s Eye, Mother of Pearl, Brown Amber, Labradorite, Maqui Marbles, Sardonyx, Shungite, Nuummite, Brown Tigers Eye and most Jaspers, ... just to name a few. ***For more crystals and stones that help with protecting your energy, click on the "Crystals" tab above for a full list of the Metaphysical Properties of each crystal and stone.
- Send pink light. When someone else is talking or acting in a negative manner, visualize sending them a beam of pink light filled with love. Then, after your encounter with them, be sure to visualize completely “severing the energetic cord of connection” between you.
- Be mindful of who you connect with. When opening yourself up to your Guides, Spirits and Angels, or channeling messages from those who have passed on, state the intention that you are only allowing those who are of the highest good or walk in God's white light to connect with your energy.
To Cleanse Yourself of Any Negative Energy You May Have Absorbed…
- Shake it off / brush it off. Visualize the negative energy inside your aura and use your hands to physically brush it away in a downward motion, away from your body and towards Mother Earth to be recycled into positive energy.
- While taking a shower, visualize the water cleansing all the negative energy off your body.

- Stand within in a circle of grounding crystals such as Selenite and Black Tourmaline.
- Try a Reiki healing session.
How to Avoid Negative Energy and Stress in General:
Reducing stress and negativity from our lives is essential! Here are a few simple reminders and suggestions that may be helpful...
- Avoid burnout: when work is not fun anymore, you know you are doing too much. Use the word no more often and find a way to create a more relaxing schedule.
- Treat your body well. Eat healthy, exercise, take your daily vitamins, get enough sleep each night and take time for yourself every day.
- Limit your alcohol use and avoid smoking and recreational drugs.
- Try yoga or play a fun sport.
- Avoid negative self-talk. Find some positive mantras to live by.
- Avoid time spent with those who speak and live negative lives.
- Life is full of anxiety, always remember to Inhale the good shit and exhale the bullshit. ;-)
- Practice doing head to toe relaxation exercises. Make sure to relax each and every muscle as you go down your body. Then, go back up your body again doing the same thing, spending extra time in areas that bother you the most.
- Go for a walk outside, get some sunlight and enjoy Mother Nature.
- Find something to smile and laugh about.
- Watch a funny show or movie. Avoid dramas, horror films and the news.
- Find a few inspirational quotes and post them where you will see and read them often.
- Get together with a good friend.
- Try meditation, massage, chakra balancing or Reiki treatments.
- Practice the art of Fung-Shui.
- Read a good book.
- Get organized. Reduce the amount of clutter and unwanted items in your home.
- Create a list of things you would like to change in your life; then create a plan on how to make it happen.
- Find something positive about your current situation(s).
- Avoid Energy Vampires...those who drain your energy and always speak and act in a negative manner.
- Think of a few things in your life that you are thankful for.
- Play your favorite music and dance like you have never danced before!
- Eat some chocolate; studies show that dark chocolate is a proven stress reliever!
- Take a nice long, hot bubble bath or shower.
- Take one day or more per week to do nothing but relax and enjoy the day… guilt-free!
- Take a mini vacation, take a scenic drive out into the country, visit one of your favorite destinations or simply spend the day at a spa.
- Learn to let things go.
- Avoid perfection.
- Keep your sense of humor.
- Choose to have a great day EVERY day.
